Prabal Gurung

I really want to get my hands on this amazing creation!

Prabal Gurung definitely pushed the envelope with this one. The designer has been all over the red carpet lately on the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker. Not to mention gracing the white house on First Lady, Michelle Obama. The designer is a non-stop force! His Spring collection was daring, originial, and there was a consistent theme throughout. The woman that seems to have inspired Gurung this season is daring, and definitely not afraid to explore her sexuality.
The collections main color scheme revolved around purple, green and black. Gurung is said to have collaborated with a London based print maker to create this reoccurring motif through the collection of withering flowers. The interesting part is although the flowers were withering it was done in spring colors which were reminiscent of blooming ones. The prints are a little similar to Australian designer Dion Lee's work.
There was a lot of sheer and peak-a-boo cut outs to enhance the sensual side of the garments. The designer successfully brought together strong, straight structured lines in the tailoring or black cable with soft feminine coloring and sheer detailing.
All in all, the collection was daring and a step outside the designer's comfort zone. It is for sure a collection that has not been recycled, as it was something I have never seen before. This was a collection made for the fashion forward, strong woman. Amazing job once again for Gurung!
